Bombardier Transportation has received a contract to deliver 50 Zefiro high-speed trains for Italian railway operator Trenitalia.

The company has partnered with Finmeccanicai's AnsaldoBreda unit to deliver the €1.54bn ($2.10bn) contract.

The V300Zefiro has a capacity for 600 passengers with a maximum speed of about 360km/h.

The trains will provide cross-border services from Italy to other European countries without the need for changing trains.

Bombardier's share of the contract is valued at €652m ($889m).

The production, testing and commissioning of the trains will be done at Ansaldo's manufacturing plants in Italy and Bombardier's units located in Italy and Germany.
