Indra Implements Ticketless Technology for US Rail Network

04 October 2010

Spain-based IT solutions provider Indra has secured a contract to implement contactless smart card ticketing technology on the Metro St Louis light rail network in the US.

The company will design and implement a contactless ticketing system for the St Louis network, which covers 37 stations across the US states of Missouri and Illinois.

Indra will also upgrade systems to include automatic ticket dispensing, cancellation and validation systems to replace ageing equipment.

The systems will be integrated with the company's control centre, which processes information related to the management of the network.

Indra will also implement its account-based system, which determines the best fare for the individual traveller.

Metro owns and operates the St Louis metropolitan region's public transportation system, carrying over 53 million passengers throughout 200 municipalities in Missouri and Illinois.

The system will also be implemented for the St Louis network, which includes about 70 bus routes.
