The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India has begun trial runs on the new 21km section of its metro system, which has been completed ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi this October.

Trial runs on the new Central Secretariat to Badarpur section has been extended to Sarita Vihar, covering about 15km and 13 stations.

The line, which will open by the end of September, is expected to be extended up to the Badarpur border before the games begin.

The total cost for the first two phases is about $3bn and the metro system will be complete by 2021.
