Bombardier has received a contract to provide 50 low-floor trams for the Melbourne tram network in Australia.
Each of the 33m-long trams will be able to carry 210 passengers and will be fitted with CCTV cameras.
Bombardier will construct, assemble and test the trams at its Dandenong plant in Melbourne.
A prototype will be unveiled next year and the first 50 trams will enter service in 2012.
The contract is part of an A$807.6m (US$773.7m) investment made by the government towards the development of the rail network and includes the construction of a tram maintenance and storage depot in Preston.
