28 September 2010

GE Transportation and Brazilian rail operator MRS LogГstica (MRS) have signed a locomotive purchase agreement at InnoTrans 2010 in Berlin, Germany.

MRS has placed an order for 115 fuel-efficient AC44i locomotives, with an option to purchase an additional 100.

The units will provide enhanced AC technology that requires less maintenance, reduces fuel consumption and lowers emissions.

The locomotives will be built at GE's plant in Brazil, while key parts, such as the12-cylinder FDL diesel engine ,will be supplied by the company's plant in the US.

Ninety units are due for delivery in 2011, which includes 30 units under an earlier contract and 60 as part of the newly-signed deal, while the remaining units will be delivered through 2015.
