Kapsch CarrierCom Wins Rail Communication System Order in UK

28 September 2010

Austria-based Kapsch CarrierCom has received a contract from UK rail operator Network Rail for the implementation of a railway communication system.

The contract includes expanding the wireless coverage and the implementation of R4 architecture in the core network to upgrade the existing infrastructure to the next generation IP-based network.

Kapsch CarrierCom will also offer additional services to increase the network’s performance and ensure the integration of the new functionality into the operator’s existing network.

The company’s R4 technology meets the requirements of the 3GPP version 4 BICN architecture, which can support voice traffic and the call control function simultaneously, increasing network performance.

R4 technology enables Network Rail to consolidate all services and network layers onto a single, scalable infrastructure as R4 incorporates current packet switching equipment instead of traditional circuit switches.

Kapsch CarrierCom is a provider of fixed, mobile, transportation and access networks solutions.
