Saudi Company Wins High-Speed Rail Contract

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has won a contract to supply electricity to the Haramain Express project under construction in Saudi Arabia.

The SAR1.83bn ($488m) contract includes the supply of 600MV of electricity to the 450km railway, which links the cities of Makkah and Madinah with Jeddah.

Electricity will also be supplied to the stations at King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh and at Madinah.

The contract also involves the power supplier building six main power plants to provide electricity for the project.

SEC will complete the contract by the end of 2012 while the railway will open in 2013.
