Transcity Consortium Wins Tunnel Project in Australia

24 September 2010

The Transcity consortium led by Spanish construction company Acciona has won a contract to construct the Northern Link tunnel in Brisbane, Australia.

The A$1.5bn tunnel is part of a proposed 5km underground toll road linking the Western Freeway of the region with the Inner City Bypass in the eastern part of the city.

The consortium, comprising of Ghella and Brisbane-based firm BMD Constructions, will deliver the project for the Brisbane city council.

Work will begin in December and the tunnel will be operational by 2014.

Motorists will have to pay A$3 (US$2.86) to use the tunnel for a year when it opens for traffic.
