Australian Operator to Start New Late Night Rail Service

23 September 2010

Australia's CityRail will implement a new late-night Guardian service from 15 October in the Australian state of New South Wales.

The services will involve extra security measures including additional transit officers and the monitoring of onboard CCTV cameras.

The rail operator said transit officers will close some carriages on the train, so that passengers will not be sitting in a carriage alone or with just a few people.

The Guardian service will operate on the Central Coast, East Hills, South, South Coast, Western and Newcastle lines.

CityRail staff will also be present at the hub stations along each line.

Guardian services will come online from 10 October for the Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra and South Coast lines.
