Liverpool Station Wins Rail Award

22 September 2010

Liverpool Lime Street Station in the UK has been named Station of the Year and Large Station of the Year at the National Rail Awards 2010.

The public transport body Merseytravel worked with Virgin, Northern Rail and Network Rail on the recent ВЈ2.6m ($4m) station refurbishment scheme.

Work included the relocation of the taxi road, the installation of a first-class lounge, new tiling, public art and the refurbishment of the travel centre.

As part of the refurbishment, the Virgin West Coast service has been given its own dedicated platforms for its services to London, a first-class lounge and waiting rooms.

The station features nine terminal platforms, wide concourses, seating, luggage facilities and retail spaces.
