Wales Opens Upgraded Station

16 September 2010

An upgraded station in the Welsh city of Newport has opened in preparation of the 2010 Ryder Cup.

The ВЈ22m ($34m) station features a bubble-wrap roof, two concourses equipped with CCTV, a customer information system, improved ticketing points, an extra entrance and a car park.

Network Rail and Newport City Council have spruced up the existing platform canopies and refurbished the taxi rank outside the station.

The 2,100m2 station accommodates more than two million passengers, up 30% since 2005, according to walesonline.co.uk.

The second stage of the project will focus on upgrading the footbridge, car park and staff offices.
