An insurance dispute between Amtrak and the Florida Department of Transportation in the US is expected to be resolved soon, following talks over the planned Central Florida commuter train.
The department and Amtrak could finalise a deal that will give liability coverage to Amtrak for any accidents involving contractors on the tracks, while a permanent liability agreement is expected to be approved by the state legislature next year.
The $1.2bn Central Florida commuter train project has been delayed because the state department cannot purchase the tracks from transportation company CSX until an agreement with Amtrak is reached.
Amtrak and SunRail will operate on the tracks the state intends to purchase.
Following the agreement, the state will offer CSX $150m to purchase the tracks for 61 miles of line between DeLand in Volusia County, through Orlando to Poinciana in Osceola County.
