Scottish Tram Operator Admits Delay in Tram Project

10 September 2010

Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (tie) has privately admitted that the tram project for the Scottish city of Edinburgh is currently running about two years behind schedule.

The company said the project is expected to be delivered by March 2013.

The project is being delivered by lead contractor Bilfinger Berger, while a new contractor will be selected to complete the remaining section to Leith and Newhaven Harbour.

The company noted that track-laying on the proposed 11.5-mile route has resulted in a further delay of 21 days, according to heraldscotland.com.

The project is part of a wider strategy to improve the city's public transport system.
