UAE Rail Operator Seeks Bids for Rail Project

10 September 2010

UAE's Union Railway Company has invited bids for the supply of diesel locomotives and freight wagons to run on the proposed nationwide freight network.

The state-owned company seeks bids by 3 October 2010 and will provide pre-qualification documents for collection by interested bidders by 19 September.

The equipment will be used for the first phase of the project, which includes a 265km line linking the oil, gas and port facilities in the region.

The first phase is scheduled to start operations in 2013, according to The National.

The company will build and operate a rail network by 2017 that runs through the seven emirates and encompasses 1,500km of track, including a possible passenger line between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
