The UK Government is planning to create a transport smartcard, which will include trains, trams and buses in England.
The Department for Transport (DfT) has allotted funds to Transport for London to upgrade Oyster smartcard readers to accept the card.
The DfT is allocating ВЈ20m ($30.6m) to nine major urban areas in England for smartcard development, according to railnews.co.uk.
The government is also in discussions with the Scottish and Welsh Governments to introduce the card throughout the UK.
