DB Schenker Rail will invest €410m ($525.9m) to purchase 1,472 freight cars and 71 locomotives.
As part of the modernisation programme, the company will purchase 700 freight cars for the coal and steel sectors and will spend €190m ($243.7m) on repairs to the existing fleet.
It will also spend €167m ($214m) on locomotives, while the remaining funding will be for various facilities and IT equipment.
