A proposed 18-mile commuter rail line between Glassboro and Camden in the US state of New Jersey has been delayed due to funding constraints from NJ Transit.
The transportation corporation failed to provide $500m, which was promised to the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) for the $1.5bn rail line.
The DRPA needs about $9m for an environmental impact study before it can start work on the rail line and has to pay about $427,000 in bills to engineering consultant STV for the environmental work.
The authority also plans to secure a $750,000 letter of authorisation from NJ Transit to meet the first phase of the environmental work, which will take two years, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The DRPA expects the first phase of the line, from Camden to Woodbury, to be completed in five years if funding is available.
An NJ Transit spokeswoman said the state agency is committed to the project and plans to reimburse the DRPA as soon as funds are available.
