The suburban railway system in Istanbul, Turkey, which operates in Haydarpasa, Gebze, Sirkeci and Halkali, is being upgraded.
The $140m project involves the introduction of suburban railway wagons, with a maximum velocity of 140km and capable of accommodating 750 passengers.
The city of Tekirdag will get a rail connection for the first time and will connect with Istanbul for faster freight transport.
Suburban lines in Izmir and Ankara have also been upgraded, meaning railway cars will have air conditioning and a new camera surveillance system.
The railways will also introduce 19 suburban railway trains along with new train routes this year, according to Hurriyet Daily News.
US engineers supplied 30 locomotives in Eskisehir and Australian engineers are manufacturing train scissors in Г‡ankiri and a German firm is supplying materials for railways in Erzincan.
