Gold Line Opens Bidding on Light Rail Extension Contract

The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority in the US has opened bidding on the Foothill Extension Phase 2A light rail alignment project.

Three shortlisted firms will submit final proposals for the alignment work, which stretches from Pasadena to Azusa, by 27 January 2011.

The firms include Foothill Transit Constructors, Shimmick Construction Company/URS Corporation and Skanska USA Civil West California District/Balfour Beatty Rail.

The $450m project involves adding 11.5 miles of track, utilities, crossings and systems, six stations and multiple bridges as well as a 25-acre maintenance facility.

The winning bidder will design, build and finance the project as part of a public-private partnership.
