Florida Seeks Additional Funding for High-Speed Rail

01 September 2010

Florida's Department of Transportation in the US is seeking more than $1bn in funds for a high-speed rail line between Tampa, Orlando and Miami.

The state is seeking $1.1bn for the Tampa-Orlando line, $8m for an environmental impact study for the Orlando-Miami line and $250m for the Miami-Jacksonville service.

If the state secures additional funding, the 220-mile Orlando-Miami segment, estimated to cost $8bn, is expected to be completed by 2018, while the Tampa-Orlando line will be completed by 2015.

The high-speed service will provide an alternative long-distance route in the state, according to miamiherald.com.
