Tasmania Upgrades Level Crossing Warning Systems

31 August 2010

The Australian state of Tasmania has unveiled new technology aimed at enhancing existing advance warning systems at level crossings.

The Advance Warning System, designed and manufactured by Inventis Technology, uses warning signs with twin flashing lights about 200-300m in advance of the crossing, and in-road centreline alert beacons to indicate when a train is approaching.

The government has funded about $3.96m under the Nation Building Economic Stimulus plan to install the systems at 13 level crossings across Tasmania.
