Saudi Arabia Receives Freight Locomotives

31 August 2010

Saudi Arabia's Saudi Railway has received the first consignment of 25 SD70ACS freight locomotives.

The six locomotives will be used for transporting minerals on the north-south railway line, which is currently under construction.

The SD70ACS features a pulse filtration system and movable sand ploughs to operate in extreme desert conditions.

The locomotives also feature 710-T1 fuel-efficient diesel engines and are compatible with the European Train Control System.

Electro-Motive Diesel supplied the first order and the rest of the deliveries will be completed by the end of the year.
