Greenbrier Receives US Rail Contract

27 August 2010

The Greenbrier Companies has received a contract to supply about 1,000 double-stack intermodal platforms, along with 700 covered hopper cars.

The contract, worth $130m, also requires the US-based company to re-engineer and modify about 1,100 existing double-stack platforms.

The company did not disclose the five separate North American customers who placed the orders.

The railcars will meet the growing demand for 53' double-stack rail cars in North America, where a majority of them haul 40' international ocean-going containers.

The double-stack railroad freight car orders and refurbishment work will be carried out at the company's Gunderson and Greenbrier rail services facilities.
