Thailand Awards Rail Contracts

26 August 2010

Thailand's Ch Karnchang has signed a contract to build a rail system in Bangkok.

The contract is part of Bangkok's THB52bn ($1.65bn) Blue Line mass transit project.

Other bidders competing for the contract include Italian-Thai Development and Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction.

Ch Karnchang, Thailand's second-largest contractor, earlier won a bid for a second contract to build the underground section of the project, while Italian-Thai won the first contract for the same section.

There are five contracts for the 27km underground and elevated lines, which will run from Hua Lumphong railway station to Bang Khae in the west, and from Bang Sue in the north to Tha Phra in the west.
