METRO Trains in Australia has been fined A$3m ($2.6) for missing punctuality targets in the April-to-June quarter.
The company's quarterly report said the April-to-June quarter was the worst period for punctuality in the last year, except for July, when services ran on time.
Timetabled services were not delivered 1.4% of the time and about 14% of trains were late.
In July, 5.6% of timetabled services on the Stony Point line, and over 30% of services on the Frankston line, did not run on time.
During the April-to-June period, 1% of trains were cancelled and about 83.3% of services ran on time.
METRO spokeswoman Leah Waymark, however, said the operator's 28-day average figure for punctuality is 87.5%, which shows that its performance has been improving.
