Australia Invites Tenders for Light Rail Study

18 August 2010

The New South Wales Government in Australia has invited tenders for a detailed study to identify the preferred route for the $500m CBD light rail link in Sydney.

The study will recommend the preferred alignment and consider traffic modelling around the route to determine the best route for the CBD from Haymarket to Circular Quay.

It will also consider the impact of changing transport patterns, including future demand in areas such as Barangaroo and the Walsh Bay entertainment precinct.

The government announced the A$50.2bn metropolitan transport plan earlier this year, which includes a light rail extension through the CBD.

A technical study by Australia-based consulting firm GHD will identify potential options for a light rail route through the CBD and will offer technical input.
