Network Rail Awards Rail Contracts in Scotland

17 August 2010

The UK's Network Rail has awarded contracts worth £10m ($15.5m) for rail improvements between Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland.

The Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvements Programme is part of a £1bn ($1.55bn) project to increase services and to reduce journey times to 37min between the cities.

The first phase of the improvements will take place with the electrification of lines between Princes Street Gardens and Haymarket, to be carried out by support services company Carillion.

The £6m ($9.3m) work at Haymarket will include track alignment and tunnel wall repairs, and will last from September to December.
