Deutsche Bahn to Win EU Approval for Arriva Acquisition

13 August 2010

Deutsche Bahn is set to win European antitrust approval for the proposed ВЈ1.6bn ($2.5bn) acquisition of UK-based Arriva after offering to sell its assets in Germany.

The offer is expected to satisfy the European Commission, which is still probing the transaction, although UK antitrust authorities have approved the proposal.

Deutsche Bahn has faced increased competition in its domestic market and expects to keep its non-German assets to increase its European footprint.

The company is planning to complete the deal by the end of August, according to Bloomberg.
