Mongolia Confirms Railway Link with Russia

06 August 2010

Mongolia has approved the construction of a 1,100km rail line between the country and Russia.

The line links the Tavan Tolgoi coal deposits with Saynshand and the existing line from Russia to Bayantumen.

The 1,520mm broad gauge line is expected to develop coal export markets through Russia.

The government chose the link over another proposal for a shorter standard gauge line to China, according to railwaygazette.com.
