US Light-Rail Project to Begin in 2011

The first phase of a light-rail project in Detroit, Michigan, US, will begin in 2011.

The work on the Woodward Light Rail involves building 3.4 miles of rail line from downtown to West Grand Boulevard, according to The Detroit News.

The second phase is expected to stretch from Grand Boulevard to Eight Mile.

The total project is estimated to cost $450m-$500m, with the funds raised through a private-public-partnership.

The project is expected to be completed by 2016.
