Kawasaki Receives US Transit Agency Orders

02 August 2010

Kawasaki Rail Car has received a $300m order for 428 7000 series rail cars from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in the US.

WMATA is planning to use 128 of the new-generation cars to expand service on the Dulles rail corridor, while 300 will replace the 1000 series cars, according to progressiverailroading.com.

Replacement of older cars in the WMATA fleet is intended to be part of the agency's rail safety measures.

WMATA will purchase the new cars using 2008 Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act funds.
