Pakistan Railways to End 120 Train Services

02 August 2010

Pakistan Railways (PR) has approved a plan to end 120 train services within the next two years.

Officials from the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Railways said the trains were being cancelled due to yearly losses of PKR10bn ($116m).

According to the committee, only 40 trains are making profits, amounting to PKR9bn ($104m), and the resources saved from reducing the train services will be used on cargo trains.

The country's railways are facing debts of PKR50bn ($580m), according to the Daily Times.
