Russia Endorses Safety Measures for High-Speed Railway

30 July 2010

The Russian Government has endorsed technical security standards to ensure the safety of personnel and passengers on its high-speed trains.

The standards will ensure automatic train stoppage facilities on trains capable of travelling at more than 200km/h.

The trains should be provided with a satellite navigation system capable of receiving a US GPS signal and brake system that can handle an impaired railway track or unplanned disconnection of train cars.

They should also have air conditioning systems, drinking and washing water supply, clean toilets, and special compartments for disabled passengers and passengers travelling with children.

The resolution also said construction of railroads for high-speed trains should not cross any motorways or public transport routes on the same level, according to Itar-Tass.
