US Regional Transit Agency Expands Rail Service

28 July 2010

The Washington Transit Authority, Sound Transit, has approved the purchase of four south line Sounder round trips from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in the US.

The $185m purchase agreement enables the regional transit agency to expand its Sounder commuter rail service from nine to 13 round trips a day.

The first Sounder train services will begin in July 2012, the second in 2014, and the third and fourth in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

Sound Transit said the expanded service will also add four peak direction and peak hour trains to the Seattle-to-Tacoma Sounder schedule.
