Zhuzhou Electric Wins Malaysian Rail Contract

28 July 2010

Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive has signed a CNY4bn ($592m) contract with the Transport Ministry of Malaysia to deliver trains to the country.

The trains will have a maximum operational speed of 140km/h and will replace existing inter-urban vehicles on the south-to-north rail line in Kuala Lumpur.

Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive general manager Xu Zongxiang said the trains will reduce operating costs by 15% a year, according to tradingmarkets.com.

The company, a subsidiary of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock, is scheduled to supply the vehicles by May 2012.
