Thailand to Double Train System Speed

28 July 2010

Thailand is planning to increase the speed of its rail system and expand its logistics network.

Train speeds will double from 50-60km/h to 100-120km/h under a THB170bn ($5.2bn) rail system budget for the next five years.

Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said auctions for the construction of high-speed train projects are in the pipeline.

The country is also studying rail routes to connect to China, according to Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation.
