The New South Wales (NSW) Government in Australia is extending the Sydney light rail network by 10km at a cost of A$500m (US$435m).
The expansion, part of the state's metropolitan transport plan, will boost travel between Dulwich Hill, the Inner West and the Sydney CBD.
The first stage of the project will see a 5.6km extension to the Inner West that will be operation from early 2012, according to government.
This stage also includes the creation of a walking and cycling path in the corridor, a number of greenbelts and other track upgrade works.
