The New Jersey Transit (NJT) in the US has approved an existing order from Bombardier for 100 double-deck commuter cars, worth $294m, and ten dual-mode locomotives.
The NJT is supporting an ongoing fleet modernisation programme, which includes adding push-pull cars to increase seating capacity.
The electro-diesel locomotives, valued at $79m, are scheduled for delivery in 2011, according to railwaygazette.com.
The capital programme also allocated $37.3m to replace track and sleepers and for bridge inspections.
It also invested $11m in electric traction and signalling improvements, as well as $84.9m for maintenance of the light rail and bus networks.
