Sri Lanka has awarded two separate contracts to Chinese and Indian companies, totalling $370m, to develop the island country's southern and northern railways.
China National Machinery Import & Export will develop the southern Matara-Beliatta railway line at a cost of $290m, according to lankabusinessonline.com.
Indian Railway Construction International will rebuild the Northern Railway Line signalling and telecommunication system at a cost of $86.5m, with the ticketing system and maintenance expected to be included.
The contracts are intended to modernise and rebuild parts of Sri Lanka's railway network, which was damaged by war, and extend the country's tracks.
