US Transit Agency to Trial Quiet Railcars

19 July 2010

The New Jersey transit agency in the US will test its quiet railcar service on the line between Trenton and New York on 7 September.

The 90-day pilot programme will be tested in the first and last cars of the 28 daily express trains between the cities.

Passengers in the quiet cars will be asked to refrain from using mobile phones, talking loudly and operating electronic devices with sound.

The US transit agency is also planning to add wireless internet access to the trains, according to Bloomberg.
