US Announces Funds for Rail Projects

13 July 2010

US transportation secretary Ray LaHood has announced a new round of funding for transport infrastructure, of which around $105m will be invested in railway projects.

The rail funds account for 36% of the $293m allocated by the US Federal Transport Department for major transit improvement works across the country.

The St Louis loop trolley project, the Charlotte streetcar starter project, the Cincinnati streetcar project and the Fort Worth streetcar loop project have all received funds worth $25m each.

Other projects include the Dallas Olive/St Paul street loop, worth $4.9m, and the extension of the McKinney trolley to connect with a light rail at St Paul Station.
