The US state of Wisconsin will spend around $100m on a proposed high-speed rail line by early 2011.
The Milwaukee-Madison line will be part of a $810m project funded by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to The Business Journal.
Wisconsin is looking to finalise the corridor design and start track construction by the end of the year.
The state is estimated to have spent more than $40m on preliminary engineering work for the project over the past five years.
