Russia to Link Major Cities with High-Speed Rail

Russia is planning to invest RUB1tn ($330bn) in a high-speed railroad linking Moscow and St Petersburg.

The 660km-long express railroad is expected to carry 42 bullet trains and transport as many as 14 million people a year.

The railroad is expected to cover the journey in 2.5 hours at a top speed of 400km/h.

Railway officials said bidding for the project will be held in 2011, according to the RBC news agency.
