Network Rail to Undergo Reform

08 July 2010

The UK's Network Rail will undergo reform under the new coalition government, according to the Minister of State for Transport, Theresa Villiers.

Addressing industry figures at the Annual Rail Freight Group Conference in London, Villiers spoke of the need for reform after members of senior management at Network Rail received high bonuses, despite other public sector workers having their pay frozen in the wake of the economic downturn.

The reform comes amid projected budget cuts as the UK economy starts to address its deficit, with some rail projects already axed.

Although no long-term promises could be made about the upcoming spending review, Villiers confirmed that Network Rail would be reformed to make it more responsive to passengers and members of the industry.
