Walsh Secures Light Rail Contract in US

Walsh Construction has secured a $205m contract to build a seven-mile light rail line in Minnesota, US.

The contract will fund part of the $957m, 11-mile Central Corridor light rail line.

Work involves construction of seven miles of embedded double track, reconstruction of streets where the track will run, building 14 stations and modifying two bridges.

The contract also includes $10m of betterment work, including planting additional trees along the line, paid by the cooperating agencies.

Construction will commence in August this year and the line is expected to be open in 2014, according to finance-commerce.com.
