Newag Launches Reconstructed Shunting Locomotive

23 June 2010

Poland-based Newag has unveiled a prototype Type 15D shunting locomotive based on a rebuilt Soviet-made TEM2 in Poland.

The locomotive is expected to be fitted with a new generator and a 1.5MW Caterpillar engine to maximise economic operation and improve performance.

The Newag 15D shunter also has a different bodywork and cab, according to railwaygazette.com.

The vehicle, however, is expected to keep the underframe, bogies and original traction motors of the soviet version, also known as SM48.
