UK May Cancel Train Deal with Hitachi

10 June 2010

The UK Government may cancel a ВЈ7.5bn ($10bn) train deal tendered to a Hitachi-led consortium in 2009, as part of spending cut plans.

The government is expected to state its decision after it reviews a third-party report on the contract, according to Reuters.

Hitachi was selected as the preferred bidder to construct and maintain a fleet of intercity trains in Britain but the final decision was deferred due to the election in May.
