GAC Manages Logistics for Sri Lankan Rail Upgrade Project

09 June 2010

UAE-based logistics provider GAC played a key role in the rehabilitation of 45km of rail track between Galle and Matara in Sri Lanka.

GAC managed the transportation of 15,000t of concrete sleepers, intersection and steel girders to the track sites.

The company is also involved in the de-stuffing and stacking of heavy material parts from India and importation work, which is scheduled to be completed by October 2010.

The project is the first phase of the upgrade plan on a 120km section of an old track between Kalutara and Matara, which will be completed by March 2011, according to transportintelligence.com.

The Galle-Matara project is being delivered by India-based IRCON International.
