Gautrain Link Gets First Phase Safety Permit

08 June 2010

South Africa's Gautrain rapid rail link has secured a safety permit for its first phase ahead of its launch on 8 June 2010.

Bombela Operating Company (BOC) received the permit after the country's railway safety regulator declared the link safe and legal.

The first phase of the Gautrain project will run between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton stations in Johannesburg.

Under the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, all railway operators are expected to have an applicable safety permit.
