DB Schenker will run Royal Mail's entire rail operation in the UK under a multi-year contract with Great Britain Rail Freight (GBRf), which has just been taken over by international operator Eurotunnel.
The Germany-based company, which was awarded the contract by GBRf's former owner First Group, is expected to provide seven services per day with more at peak hours, according to logisticsmanager.com.
The company has already run its first train for Royal Mail on a route from London Willesden to Glasgow, Scotland, via Warrington.
The logistics company is expected to operate the 325 trains already owned by Royal Mail.
DB Schenker is a wholly-owned subsidiary of German railway company Deutsche Bahn.
